EMAIL CENTER
Updated as of May 2015.
The E-mail Center is divided into governmental branches. Click below on the branch you want to contact:
The Whitehouse and the Congress; Congressional Committees and Subcommittees; District and State senate and delegates; District, Maryland, and Virginia county/city councils.
To send an e-mail, click on one of the underlined names and a "mail to" form will come up. Enter the subject of your letter and fill in the text you want. Then hit the SEND button. If you want to send a copy to other elected members of Congress, you can click here to go to a Senate directory to look up a senator's email address. The House side is more difficult as many members operate with individual websites. Many of them use the format: Rep. (lastname)@mail.house.gov. Also you can click here to go to a House directory. It's a place to start. If you want to send copies to more than one person, separate the e-mail addresses with a comma.
A way for businesses as well as citizens to reach members of Congress via phone or fax is through BeBusinessEd. Click here to reach it.

Before 9/11, the preferred way to contact members of Congress was the regular letter. However, because of the anthrax scare and the security issues, email is now the preferred way to contact your govenment. You can still send a regular letter, but it may take longer to get a reply. 1. Your purpose for writing should be stated in the first paragraph of the email/letter. If your email/letter pertains to a specific piece of legislation, identify it accordingly,
2. Be courteous, to the point, and include key information, using examples to support
3. Address only one issue in each letter; and, if possible, keep the letter to one page.
4. Give your name and snail mail address.
